A Good Reminder

As a Republocratitarian I have mixed feeling with yesterday's results both on a national and local level, so when I got this email from my lovely wife today, it reminded of a few things. Thought I'd share and post it here.

I AM THANKFUL:

FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED .

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE
ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH. .

FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE
OF WALKING AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION .

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
WHO SINGS OFF KEY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

AND I AM THANKFUL:
FOR THE crazy people I work with
BECAUSE they make work interesting and fun!

AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL

BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE
THINKING OF ME.

Seems really appropriate on this the day after the election when we all need to get back to simply being people, not followers of a particular political creed or club.

I have NEVER followed a particular party belief or club. My political outlook is that I vote for a PERSON, not a party. I do my research, see how the candidates feel about the important issues, and then "go with my gut" . . .

So, I am okay with yesterday's results. And hopeful that our reps in DC will work TOGETHER, regardless of party affiliation, to serve this country.

What a nice post, and refreshingly non-political.

That's delightful, and a fantastic reminder. =D I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the whole thing, but I figure for better or worse, at least it's over.

I liked the alarm clock bit.

In light of his immense intake of drugs, Keith Richards once remarked that any day he woke up was a good a day.

Of course, he wasn't joking.

Oh Travis:
What a nice post - now that we are getting back to the 'new' normal.
I am very pleased and excited, as you can tell from my post today.
Here's to us all; the Little People who make this country and world go.
I love you guys!
Aloha from Waikiki-

okay, that was great. It's true- it's all those LITTLE things that make me smile. My kids are fighting; my husband it laid off; my bills are too high; but I COULDN'T be happier! It's true.......

Very fine sentiment, and very true. I try to keep these kinds of things in mind every day as I give thanks. Sometimes it's hard to remember, but I am always blessed.

Excellent post! And we need to remember that no matter what we think of the choices made by the majority of Americans, it is our moral obligation to keep informed and to make our opinion known to those who represent us on every level.

Nothing will change until each of us has completely changed. Government is not about voting once in a while. It's about keeping up with issues all the time. That's why it's called a participatory democracy.

Having said all that, Travis' wife, as usual is right on the money.

You have one smart wife. As far as the elections go, we should all respect the office of the presidency no matter who is in sitting in the Oval Office. Many Americans have forgotten that in the past.
