Feeling Rather Impish

I started this year with a number of goals. As we approach the halfway mark of 2011 I am faced with the reality that I have failed every last one of them.

And yet ... I don't feel like a failure.

Circumstances have changed. New opportunities have present themselves. Oh I could still stand to drop a few pounds but researching and writing a food book, especially one with a  decadent nature like Lettuce Is The Devil, is not exactly conducive to weight loss.

And while my humorous women's fiction novel involving bull semen, a nymphomaniacal senior citizen, and a woman who believes sex is ruining her life is on hold and not complete I am excited my soon to be released project titled, Whispers. The stories in Whispers are some of my personal favorites and two of them may be familiar to very long time readers of this blog but for a mere 99 cents I hope many of you will check them out upon their release.

I have not maintained my reading goals either and this is the one area that bothers me. But I hope to free some time and remedy this soon.

I did gather up the family and go see the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I was eager to see Ian McShane portray Blackbeard but sadly his performance didn't quite live up to me hope.

Overall the movie was decent enough. Not as good as the first movie, way better than the turd of a third installment, and about on par with #2 in the franchise.

But I'll tell you what is good. The HBO series Game of Thrones.

I have not read any of George R.R, Martin's writings but this series sure is making me want to. Then again HBO seems to be the only purveyor of good story telling on television and I am a fan of their current series Treme, and Boardwalk Empire and I loved Rome and Deadwood as well. True Blood is a bit too cheesy for me taste and I enjoyed The Sopranos for a season or three but I found those last few season boring, but I applaud HBO for bringing viewers something other than CIS Hoboken.

So tell me. Are you watching Game of Thrones? Treme? CIS Hoboken?

I've been watching GoT and its pretty good, although the pace feels a bit slow at times and I wish they'd up the fantasy element a bit. Lots of meetings and politicking.

I love Game of Thrones, and my brother has the whole series of books and has lent me the first two.

Can't wait for Whispers to come out!!!

I like the spirit of this post, Travis. Circumstances change, goals and visions and dreams should evolve with you.
I can understand what you are saying 100%.
Life on 16 acres bordering a wetland has helped me get some perspective!

I wish you all the best for the next half of the year. Keep up the writing.

SO glad you enjoy Treme. That show is subtle, but magnificent. Boardwalk Empire and GoT are also good. Just goes to show that HBO's range is vast, but their quality is something we've come to expect.

I haven't seen Game of Thrones because I have no TV, but the books are awesome. If you need incentive to try them out, I will personally squee and blither and flail at you about their wonderfulness until you do.

You must read Game of Thrones! If you are enjoying the show, you will enjoy the books also.

Too bad none of the Pirates' sequels will ever be as good as the original. Still remains my favorite. (And yes, the third one was just plain BAD).

Hey, things change. I'm glad you're new endeavors are going so well. :-)

Er.. no, no and aha! No. LOL!!

Anyway - yay for you having such a wonderful and surprising year so far! I think if you had stuck to all your goals like clockwork - well you'd just be as boring as.. salad. Without the dressing. And that's totally boring and I'm a vegetarian!

Good luck with Whispers!! Take care

Have to give that Game of Thrones a try. It seemed too improbably from the trailers. But I like TREME a lot.

I'm looking forward to Whispers. I read quite a bit of Martin's early stuff but probably won't read this just because it's so long. BTW, "Killing Trail" is being uploaded to Nook even now.

Wait, tell me more - you have something coming out - ? How wonderful . . . !

Nothing like hitting June to make you assess your weight goals. I'm having a similar issue. I've just pulled out my summer clothes, and can't understand why things that fit perfectly well last year are tight now. Did they shrink in the basement? That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

I didn't plan to see Game of Thrones.

I have heard of Games of Thrones just not checked it out yet.

Hey look at it this way Chelsea Handler Tweeted yoU!

Forget lettuce. It's not very nutritious and so bland. You had to smother it with dressing to make it palatable. Try other veggies-so much more interesting. Truly, any veggie can be fabulous in the right hands.

More pirate films must be produced if this country is to emerge from its financial doldrums.
