Favorite Stuff

I don't know why, but I felt compelled to rewrite the song My Favorite Things in a way that better fits me.

Big juicy steaks and really good books
Songs that tell stories and sharp fishing hooks
Big poker pots that I can take with a bluff
That is my most favorite kind of stuff

Blogging about nothing and comments from readers
Coconut Rum that comes in really big liters
Literary agents who say "Yes, good enough"
Oh, that is my favorite kind of stuff

A wife that loves me by night and by day
Two little boys that make everything okay
Funny conversations right off the cuff
That is my most favorite kind of stuff

When the lettuce wilts
When the road is rough
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite stuff
And then I don't feel so bad

So tell me what is y'alls favorite kind of stuff? Feel free tow rite your own version and call it stuff, things, crapola or whatever you can find rhymes for.

Very well done! I myself am fond of funny conversations off the cuff. And I have two little boys also (of which I am fond). It would probably take me a week to crank out this song with my stuff. So, I'll just be content to admire yours.

Very nice song stylings, Travis...

I've been a bit remiss in my blogging stops, but I wanted to stop in and wish you a very Merry Christmas in case I didn't get a chance to later.

Coconut Rum.

You even made the musicality work.

I love it. What great favorite things.

Are you, like, HAPPILY married?

:) (Just kidding, Mrs. Travis, I promise).

Merry Christmas, indeed!

Awesome.
When are you going to Karoke it and place the sound track on your blog? Seriously.

Brilliant and fun, Travis! They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so I'm gonna try to do the same song on my blog, although I'm such a Scrooge, it'll probably be about my least favorite things.

Best wishes to you and your family for the holidays and coming year.

And may the muse always be kind.

Alyssa - Thanks for the admiration. If you like Coconut Rum feel free to change wife to husband and call it good.

Merry - Your song parody's on your blog helped inspire this post, and Merry Christmas to you as well.

Suv Mama - It's easy to copy but since I am tone death I could never make the musicality work on my own. And yes I am happily married to the only woman who'd have me. And Mrs, Travis knows that better than anyone.

marla - thanks marla

Alex - I couldn't sing my way out of a wet paper bag, and there ain't enough rum in the world to make me try publicly.

Josephine - I look forward to you rendition. I'm glad someone else is going to try it.

Much less sappy than the original version.

Ok, I do prose and not poetry, and I’m pretty sure I’ve counted some of the lines wrong, but here’s my “I spent 10 minutes on this” attempt at cleverness:

Sharks in sharp skates making mincemeat of Stars
Old British pubs and cheaply-priced bars
All of my friends who are lovely and smart
These are the thingies close to my heart

Hot chocolate and cats sitting warm in my lap
Wand’ring strange places with no guide and no map
Big old museums with rooms full of art
These are the thingies close to my heart

Books with long words and impeccable plots
Books with big pictures and coffee-stained-spots
Books that I own and books I do not
These are the thingies close to my heart

When I have homework
When the sky’s gray
When I’m feeling bluuuuue
I think of the thingies close to my heart
And then I will feeeel like newwwww

ahem. yes. well. like I said. not a poet.

Great job! I'm with you on the big juicy steaks! But I would have to add chocolate to my list.

I pretty much agree right down the line. I like this version better than the original.

oh, this is so so great!

I don't have time to write my own version... too busy at work, but... I could probably write a poem of my least favorite things. Hmmm... i might steal your idea and do that...

Sam - Thanks. Me and sappy don't get along so well.

Fish - Great job but I do believe the Stars won the last meeting 4-2, and are in first place of the division.

Ello - chocolate is okay but something I can take or leave.

Charles- Guess it is true, Great minds do think alike.

Monnik - Sometime time in the future I'll do something with my unlikes as well. look forward to reading yours.

I love this song too.

I also have two sons. Wouldn't have it any other way...

Hope you and your family are getting ready for a great Christmas!

VERY creative! And beyond me, at the moment. But a few of my fave things: my four adorable kids, my dh, my sisters, red licorice, a good book, Irish Breakfast tea, a hot bath...enough already!
