Roundup

Tomorrow I head back to Vegas. Six days this time on "Official" or at least work-related business. Pray that both my liver and my bank account can take a week's worth of Sin City abuse.

My buddy that went to Seattle a few weeks brought me this magnet for my roll around toolbox at work.

The picture isn't super clear but it says WORK is for people who don't now how to PLUNDER. I'm starting to acquire a good collection of paraphernalia that plays off the word Plunder, but the one I really crave is a published novel bearing my name and the words Plundered Booty, but of course I wouldn't be one to argue of said publisher told me they were changing the name to Tampered Hiney or even Stolen Derriere though in my opine that is a bit too French sounding for a bunch of retched car dealers from Oklahoma.

What else is on my mind today?

The Olympics for one thing. I know millions of people enjoy it but I simply cannot get into all the gymnastic hub-bub. Matter of fact I take issue with any and all sporting events that are decided solely by a judge's score card. Gymnastics, diving, figure skating, ballroom dancing. I can appreciate the grace, skill, and even athleticism involved, but I much prefer head-to-head battle.

That is not to say I wasn't rooting for the two American girls, Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson last night, but I'd like to see a bit more boxing (yes I know it often comes down to a score card, but at least each combatant has a crack at their opponent) archery, field hockey, judo, wrestling. I want action over artistic impression.

My wife had to head back to school today to get her classroom prepared and the boys go next Thursday. It will be nice to be back in the routine again, though I doubt my wife feels the same.

I will have my laptop with me in Vegas and I plan to blog nearly everyday including a My Town Monday.

So how about y'all? Got any last of summer trips planned. Have a favorite summer Olympic sport NBC isn't showing? When does school start in your area. Received a cool gift lately?

No summer trips for us. School starts Monday!

I wish they'd show softball. I believe it was on at 2 a.m. the other night. I forgot to TiVo it.

But I am bleary eyed and full of yawns this morning because I stayed up watching gymnastics last night. These olympics are totally messing with my sleep. I almost want them to be over!

I like boxing too. But then, if I wasn't so girly, I could actually see myself doing a little boxing. I like to fight. Is that wrong?

School starts next Wednesday. YESSSSS. Can't wait to get back into a routine, although I'm sure two months down the road I'll be whining that I hate routine...

No summer trips, except I'll be heading home again for a family reunion (celebrating 100 years in America!).

I've still got two more weeks before I have to go back to teaching. No classroom to prepare though-- we all share rooms. Sometimes I don't know if that's a good thing or not. But it is what it is.

Hubby's been into the Olympics-- though I'm wondering if they should measure that pool and see if it's really the size it ought to be... ;-)

Hope to see your book published soon, Travis. Have you ever considered submitting under your initials (get past any first impression stuff)?

haha my dad is the same way about events that need to be judged. gymnastics, ice skating, etc. I agree to a point, but I still like watching the man-gymnasts flip around.

I do draw the line at rhythmic gymnastics.

I loooooooooove the olympics..I am in awe of them...the gymnastics is kind of scary as those little kids bodies look a little weird...I'd like to see more of the softball as they are kicking ass all over beijing..so much so that they are going to discontinue the sport..feck!...so they are being punished for being good...bastids..
I'm waiting for westfest..it's labor day weekend..and have a friend coming from alabama and one from oklahoma to stay with me and go to their first westfest...if you haven't been and live in the area ya'll..come on down..czech's and pevo..can't beat it

I haven't even watched the Olympics this year and I live in the same town as Shawn Johnson. I am so un - American.

I go back to work full - time on Monday. I am excited and dreading it all in one.

It is so going to suck going back on a 5a to 9p schedule. It's going to make it hard to squeeze in a blog too. I can't and won't do it from work because my co - workers have no clue that I blog. :)

I am going to NYC for Labor Day weekend. That's the only trip I have planned for the rest of the year.

I've seen no 3 day eventing, nor BMX racing. Very annoying.

I'm going to Acapulco in a week! It's really not as exciting as it sounds because it's only a three-hour drive away. Then I'm going to Chicago & Michigan, yay!

Have a good time in Vegas! I love that magnet. ;)
No trips planned.
I'm Anti-Olympic.
School has already started in our area. (Which explains, ironically, why there are suddenly no kids in the library.)
The coolest gift I rec'd lately was Charles coming home today from a week out of town.

I suppose if you surf enough channels you will find the Olympic sports that suit your tastes, but generally, the major networks only show in prime time those events that the U.S. is expected to earn a medal.
I will admit, I am ready for the track and field events though.

Fun magnet. Have a great time in Vegas again, even though this time it is work related.

I'm just glad to be home from my last summer trip. Have fun on yours. I'm the same about sports decided by score cards. I'd rather see head to head competition.

Well hell, my life sucks! Fall harvest is at a lull and it rained like hell but we'll be back full swing in a couple of weeks.

Let's see, trips...I have to go the 6 miles into town to see my accountant on Monday...does that count? Oh! And I need toilet paper so might stop by the grocery store!

School starts here on the 25th, town already ga ga over football possibilities...superceding olympics at this point. God help me...

Have fun in Vegas!

No trips this summer. I had a chance to go to Paris, but with the house being on the market, I didn't think it would be wise to leave the country.

So now we're just chillin. I go back to work Monday (Arg!!!) The kiddoes report on the 25th. It'll be fun. . .

Karen

P.S.: Penelope wanted me to tell you that she posted a My Town Monday regarding our home town, Redneck Hell, Texas

Penelope said...

Actually, Redneck Hell is not our hometown. We just lived there for seven years.

I LOVE that plunder sign your friend brought you. You're going to have to show us some pictures of your stuff. You know, so we can get to know you better, so when you're famous we can brag about it.
