Put Me in Coach

The juggernaut that is the 2nd grade St Mary's flag football team played their first game today. They moved the ball quite well within the twenties, but had trouble punching it in at times. And the defense played extremely well holding the other team to negative yardage most of the time, but two 60+ yard runs was enough, as St Mary's lost 12-6.

Must have been poor coaching that prevented the win, but I am happy to report everyone was smiling as we left the field. I'll try to get someone to take pictures of tomorrow's game.

I may or may not get a My Town Monday up this week but at the very least, I'll have the links from others up so if you post let me know.

And I'm quite sad to hear about Paul Newman's death. My favorite role of his was as Sully in the movie version of Richard Russo's Nobody's Fool. If you haven't seen it, or read the novel you should.

I agree you've been successful if every one was smiling, all said and done. Great job!

Thanks for your comment on mine. Sorry to hear that Paul Newman had died - hadn't picked that up.

i loved him in slap shot..it was such a funny movie, and he was so great in it..nobody's fool should have gotten him an oscar.

I liked him in both Slap Shot and Cool Hand Luke.

He left his mark on the world, without a doubt.

Yet another good honorable movie actor who made his home in CT passes away.

I loved him in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, one of the first pictures I went to the movies with a special 'friend' to see!!

Butch Cassidy was my favorite Newman role. Cool hand luke was pretty good. Well, sounds like St. Mary's gave 'em what for anyway.

I'm going to miss Paul. I had such a huge crush on him - he was such a good looking man even as he got older. It's a sad day the Earth lost such a wonderful and giving human being.

I can't wait to see pics of the football players. :D

I'll always remember seeing Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the drive-in one summer.

Oh heck, Travis...they're 2nd graders...don't beat yourself up too much, eh? *L*
Personally I was a Cool Hand Luke fan. And wasn't he in "The Verdict?" That was a great one. We always liked to support the whole "Newman's Own" brand/charity. Paul is already sorely missed.

Dang! HOW could I forget Slap Shot? What kind of Canadian am I???

Slapshot! See ya on the other side Mr. N.

Travis, need a win for your 2nd graders? Have them play the Detroit Lions.

Everyone left the field smiling? I'd say you're a fantastic coach.

Travis, there is no comment section on your post for My Town Monday, so I am commenting here. My post will be up around midnight, a continuation of James FitzGibbon and the Battle of Beaver Dams.

We had some flag football down here last weekend too! My son had gotten a set for his birthday and loved trying it out.
